Research for my project

Ida Fink - Polish-language writer of Jewish origin. She was born in Zbaraż on November 1, 1921. She died on September 27, 2011 in Tel Aviv. The writer was the daughter of a doctor and teacher. Music was her greatest passion, which is why she studied at the Conservatory of the Polish Music Society in Lviv.

In 1941, together with her sister and parents, she was sent to the Zbaraski ghetto. A year later, she escaped with her sister and from that moment until the liberation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth hid on the Aryan side. When World War II ended, she came to Poland - here she got married and gave birth to a daughter. From 1957 she lived in Israel (she settled in Holon).

I read a short story by Ida Fink - "Playing the Key" (Fink, 1997), which is the greatest inspiration to write my short story and tells the subject of the Holocaust and the everyday life of Jews. I focused mainly on the writing method and technique of this short story.

In the "Playing key" reader is introduced to a Jewish family that lives in very bad conditions. The described apartment is gray, cool and lacks a sense of security. Family members almost all the time await the coming of destruction and the end of their existence. The title game of the key is based on the fact that a three-year-old child has to find the key very slowly and open the door if someone knocks. Very slowly because the family is expecting Gestapo officers. The boy's task is therefore to slow things down so that his parents can hide or run away. From the story we learn that this game is repeated almost every day. The family lives in constant fear. The aim of the game is to achieve perfection, i.e. the boy has to search for the key as long as possible and make a credible sound. This picture shows us the tragedy of the situation of Jewish families, whose lives were filled with fear and a sense of danger.

I hope that in my short story I will also be able to capture similar emotions and tone. I also want my work to be as non-fictional as possible and to reflect as many true facts as possible.
